Mark Hosking
Mark Hosking’s ongoing series of painted-metal sculpture explore the chance of repositioning the artwork more physically within the cycle of human activity. Using a fascination with functionality, he seeks to facilitate an ambiguous position for the work, somewhere between gallery, concert hall and high street. His engineering activities suggest a working agenda outside of art making, a hybrid state where the statuesque and the inert can be re-considered. The implied or the actual disruption of sculpture is ultimately a reaffirmation, once the work falls silent and motion stops.
Mark Hosking (b. 1971, Plymouth, UK) studied at Chelsea Collage of Art and The Slade School of Art and was a resident at The Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. Hosking's work has been exhibited in London at The Saatchi Gallery, Lisson Gallery and Bloomberg Space. Other exhibitions include: West Collection, New York. The Arts Council Collection UK, Sharjah Museum, Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt. Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, USA. Future exhibitions include a solo show in Murcia and a group exhibition in Delhi. He currently lives and works in Amsterdam.
